What's New + Quilts on USPS StampsHello friends! Thank you so much for stopping by. ❤ T New on the blog this week, it's my monthly check-in of What's on my Sewing Table! Time for my monthly accountability post where I share the latest projects that I'm working on. This year I've added a couple more points of accountability including what I'm purging or repurposing and my fabric purchases of the month. I've also thoroughly enjoyed having lots of new international friends to hang out with while I sew (they might not know that we're friends, but we totally are. 😉) with the inspiring life stories from the 2026 Winter Olympics. What am I going to do when they end?!
A Quilt Legend Worth Knowing: Harriet Powers and Her Story QuiltsThe USPS just released a Harriet Powers stamp collection, and it sent me down the rabbit hole learning more about the woman behind two of the most remarkable story quilts in American history. In today’s post I’m sharing a quick introduction to Harriet Powers, what makes her Bible Quilt and Pictorial Quilt so significant, and where you can see them today (Smithsonian + MFA Boston). If you enjoy quilting history—or just love seeing how fabric can tell a story—this one is worth a read.
Quilting Tip of the Week: Fixing a Quilt Block That is Too SmallHave you ever put lots of time into an intricate quilt block, only to have it end up too small for the quilt it's supposed to be a part of? Leila Gardunia has a fantastic, simple tip to remedy quilt blocks that end up too small. (Without having to pull out the seam ripper!) Click the button below to read more.
Fun Finds on the Web:Looking for some gorgeous scrap-quilt-inspiration? Check out Emily Dennis' Scrappy Trip Around the World quilts. I made one of these quilts about 10 years ago, but lately I've been itching to make a new one in a more washed out color palette. I'm totally inspired by the ones Emily made. How cute is this Solar System-inspired mini quilt? Find the free tutorial here from Ameroonie Designs. The Fat Quarter Shop has a cute, free baby quilt pattern perfect for charm packs called Charm Pack Chili. I'm one of the speakers at an upcoming free online quilting conference, the Quilter's Paradise summit that will be held March 9-14. Whether you are a modern quilter, a traditionalist, or somewhere in between, you will leave this summit with new skills and the confidence to finish your WIPs. It finally happened! Many of you have heard me whine all winter that I haven't been able to do one of my favorite winter activities this whole season - a winter hike through the snow. Which I know sounds utterly crazy to some of you. And believe me, I get it. Up until a few years ago it sounded utterly unpleasant and undesirable to me too! But about 8 years ago, my husband talked me into giving it a try. He helped me collect the right gear (which wasn't fancy - I already had hiking poles - mainly a good set of spikes that go over my hiking boots.) And he helped me know what layers to wear (a hat, gloves and wool socks for sure) - and then I was ready to go. Those investments were some of the best I've ever made. And frankly you don't need much else because your moving body does a really good job of keeping itself warm. The benefits of going outside are already well documented. Here are the reasons beyond those that I love hiking in the snow:
Honestly, it's almost a holy experience for me. And this week we finally got enough that I could do it. Hallelujah. I loved it so much. So, there you go, between the Olympics and a snow-hike - lots of happy vibes to be grateful for. xo, AmyIf you would like to stop receiving this content, please click unsubscribe below.
