24 Project Ideas ๐ŸŽ† for the 4th of July

25 Project Ideas for the 4th of July + How to Spot fake AI Quilt Patterns + Memorial Weekend Sales

Hello friends far and wide! I hope this week's newsletter finds you well. I'm excited because today I have so much inspiration, ideas and information to share with you. Plus some really great Memorial Day weekend sales and deals!

First of all, I just wanted to say that I was quite tickled and pleasantly surprised by the response to my article about 12 Things I Learned from 20 Years in the Quilting Industry that I shared last week. If you missed it you can find the link in last week's Newsletter.

By the way - did you know you can find the library archive of my past Newsletters here?

What's New On My Sewing Table - May Edition

This week I have a brand new post where I'm sharing a peek behind the curtain at what's going on in my sewing room this month. This month's projects include summer-inspired Americana quilt, and a couple of blocks-of-the-month QAL's.

I've also got a peek at a new hobby I'm starting. It's still in the sewing/handwork family, so it's not a stretch, but I am excited to try something new. I'm looking forward to having it as a portable sewing project this summer.

4th of July ๐ŸŽ† Sewing Inspiration

It's Memorial Day Weekend here in the US - which is also the official kick-off for summer! I've updated my list of over 25 sewing and quilting projects perfect for the 4th of July - or for commemorating America's 250th anniversary.

This list has a little bit of everything:

  • Large Quilts
  • Mini Quilts
  • Pillows
  • Embroidery Projects
  • Door Hangings

So whether you're looking for a big quilt for the 4th of July, or just a little red, white and blue project for a quick finish to still put you in the seasonal mood, this list has something for everyone!

Fun Finds on the Web

This find is not necessarily fun, but I do think it's very useful. With fake AI-generated quilt patterns becoming more prevalent, I recently came across a couple of good articles about how to spot fake AI quilt patterns by Julia Wachs and another one by Stephanie of Swoodson Says. Both have some very handy, practical tips to keep you safe from buying fake patterns or content.

Love this cute little Neighborhood mini quilt pattern from Bev of Flamingo Toes.โ€‹

Happy summer friends. I'm looking forward to sharing a lot more projects and inspiration with you over the coming months.

For those here in the US, I hope you have an enjoyable Memorial Day Weekend. For those of you not here in the US, thank you so much for being here too! One of my favorite things about this quilty world is all of the international friends I've made because of our mutual love of quilting and sewing. It's wonderful that we have these opportunities to make these kind of worldwide connections.

It seems weird that I even need to say this, but due to recent events I want to emphasize how much I, and most of my fellow Americans, value our international friends and neighbors, their cultures, diversity and perspectives.

I have an increased appreciation for international friends, allies and Memorial Day itself after visiting the American Military Cemetery in Normandy, France a few years ago. This is the final resting place of the service men who lost their lives in the D-Day invasions of WWII. It was incredibly sobering and humbling to see the visual reminder of the countless lives who sacrificed so much to liberate a continent and preserve democracy - many of whom were the ages of my two boys.

I'm SO grateful for the sacrifices of our military members today and their families as well. My husband grew up in a military family and I know that the sacrifice for those family members is just as significant.

In the mean time, wishing you a good weekend with those you love and remembering those who have gone before.

Thanks again for checking in. Have a great one. See you next week.

xo,

Amy

12 Lessons I've Learned + Summer Sewing Inspiration Hello friends far and wide! I hope this week's newsletter finds you well. I mentioned in my newsletter last week that I returned from the H+H Americas Spring Show - one of the biggest trade shows in the quilting and sewing industry, where fabric companies, designers, publishers, and creative businesses gather to debut new products and trends. I came away inspired by everything that's new and coming, including renewed interest in traditional...

How to Bind a Quilt + Jolly Bar Sale + Patchwork Tote Bag It's been a busy week around here! I was able to attend the H+H Americas trade show in Chicago. Oh my goodness - so much eye candy and inspiration. This is a show for vendors from the Sewing, Quilting and Knitting industries to share their upcoming products and collections for the coming year to shops and consumers. (It's an industry event for vendors only and not open to the public.) I had big plans to write up some of the things I...

Over 25 Quilt + Project Ideas using Precut 5" squares (aka Charm Packs) Hi friends! Thanks so much for checking in! I've got some fun things to share with you this week. First of all, any guesses of what is my favorite invention of the quilting universe in the past 20+ years? I know it's pretty gutsy to make a statement that bold, but I still stand by this opinion. My favorite invention is the creation of pre-cut and pre-coordinated fabric squares. I still remember the first time I...
