A Favorite Fat Quarter Quilt + Free Baby Quilt TutorialHello, hello! Happy weekend everyone. I hope that summer is treating you well! This week I've got a new quilt finish to share as well as one of my favorite free baby quilt tutorials to share. Read on! Brand new on the blog this week: A Favorite Fat Quarter QuiltI just finished a new version of my Summer Bunting quilt pattern, and I'm sharing all the details in this week's post including adorable fabric picks (Tasha Noel!), a few past versions of this quilt that you might not have seen, and why it's still one of my go-to patterns for using up Fat Quarters. This pattern is perfect for busting that Fat Quarter stash and it's an easy beginner quilt too! There's also a sale this week: the pattern is 20% off in both PDF and paper versions. I've listed the finished Twin-size quilt for sale too, with proceeds going to Wrap the World with Quilts. Click below to read the full post.
Free Star Baby Quilt TutorialThis free baby quilt pattern is one of the most popular patterns on my site. For good reason! It's a quick make with large scale blocks and the pattern is perfect for using 10" x 10" precuts (aka Layer Cakes). It's a great one for using stash or making a cute baby gift quickly! Click below to get the pattern tutorial, fabric details, and assembly tips.
Speaking of Layer Cake Quilts - the link to the final days of the SALE for Hourglass Shuffle quilt pattern was broken last week π so I extended the discount on that through 7/13. Advanced Quilting Tips: How to Machine-Piece Hexagons/Y-seamsHow do you feel about Y-seams? Do they feel intimidating to you? Iβve built my quilting style around fast and easy short-cuts, but Iβm here to tell you, Y-Seams are not as scary, or as difficult, as theyβre sometimes made out to be! Last year I wrote a post introducing this technique and demonstrating how simple it can be. I went in depth on "What is a Y-seam?", how they're used to piece blocks where three seams intersect - like with Hexagons, and a great washi-tape shortcut to make the process even easier! If Y-seams have always felt intimidating, take a look and see what you think. I recommend practicing on large scale blocks, but once you get the hang of it, the process is really straightforward! Click the button below to learn how relatively painless it is to piece hexagon patchwork quilts on your sewing machine!
Fun Finds on the Web - More Summer Sewing IdeasLove this cute gingham picnic coaster tutorial made by Bev of Flamingo Toes! Are you a camping fan? Nadra of Ellis & Higgs has the most delightful camping quilt blocks collection available in her Etsy Shop. She also has a beautiful Nautical collection if that's more of your summer scene. Meghan from Then Came June shares a free, scrappy version of a traditional Bear Claw block. I love it! It's definitely on my "to make" list. Check out these ADORABLE summer bags made by Charise Creates. (More gingham! You know I'm a sucker for gingham.) This week has been busy - we've had family in town and a birthday to celebrate. At the same time, I think I'm finally done with the big yard work projects and now I'm at the "just keep everything alive" part of the summer yard work. Which is great and just in time for staying out of the heat as the temperatures are hitting triple digits. π₯΅ And bonus: I'm finally finding some more time to sew! A good time to stay inside next to a fan. Anyone else out there experiencing/enjoying World Cup fever? I'm not a diehard soccer/football consumer, I've been sucked into the stories and experiences that are happening because of it. Just like the Olympics, the human-interest-stories, fans, people-parts of the experience make it so great and universal. Especially the examples of good sportsmanship and bringing people together across countries and cultures. (i.e. the Scotland Army in Boston or Lawrence, Kansas hosting Team Algeria?! π₯Ή) This afternoon two of my favorite countries match up: Norway & England. Of course they have to play each other! π If you've been around these parts for a while, you know that I'm a diehard Anglophile after living in England multiple times. So you might be surprised to know that I'm rooting for Norway on this one. π€« Or maybe not surprised because I'm missing and feeling close to my viking sister who passed away last month and I know Norway's win will bring joy to her family. β€οΈ (Also, I've totally jumped on the Erling Haaland bandwagon.) Here's a peek of a quilt that I made for her 16 years ago. It made me happy to see it on the bed in her guest room when we visited. While I was there in June, I snapped a picture of the Norway flag block. You know I'm a lover of flag quilt blocks and I think it's time to finally draft this block to share. Stay tuned - Scandinavia, you're next on the list! And favorite teams you've been cheering for? Stay cool and HAGS, as the kids say.
