Free Halloween 🎃👻 Sewing Ideas

Free Halloween Sewing Projects + How to Declutter and Destash and restore your Sewjo

Greetings friends!

Hope your weekend is treating you well. While I'm enjoying the fall season, I'm still in a little bit of denial that September is almost over. I haven't really felt in the Halloween mood yet, but Trader Joe's and my calendar are reminding me that October is almost here, so today I started pulling out some of my Halloween décor.

That also inspired me to put together a fun list of Halloween inspired sewing ideas you still have time to make (or at least start) before the season gets here!

One of my favorite quilts I pull out every fall is this Halloween version of the Summer Bunting quilt. After years of collecting cute Halloween fabrics and prints, I finally put them to use!

This Bunting quilt comes together SO fast and bonus - it's especially perfect for showing off fun, large scale prints!

You really could whip up this one in time for Halloween if you want! (Or get an early start on Halloween next year.)

This is also the pattern of the week and marked down 20% off (this week only)!

Fun Finds on the Web - Halloween Sewing and Crafting Ideas

Another favorite Halloween project I pull out every year is my patchwork pumpkin pillow (above right). This is a fast finish if you're looking for something festive you can make quickly. And it's great for making with scraps!

Here are a few more fun Halloween Tutorials. And many of them are free!

Is Your Fabric Stash Stealing Your Sewjo? - Help from guest contributor, Radha of FeelGood Fibers

Is your fabric stash inspiring you—or has it started to feel a little overwhelming? Sometimes the supplies we’ve collected with the best intentions can make it harder to see what we have, choose a project, and feel excited to sew.

This week, I’m welcoming Radha from FeelGood Fibers to share ideas from her Making Space to Sew series. She offers a thoughtful approach to deciding whether your sewing space needs better organization or a little decluttering, letting go of fabric without guilt, and finding a new home for the pieces you’re ready to pass along.

Celebrate National Sewing Machine Month with the Fat Quarter Shop

The Fat Quarter Shop has is celebrating National Sewing Month kicking off a sew-along for a cute Sewing Machine Love quilt (pattern here). They also have a kit available if you want to make your quilt just like the one they are making.

Oh man, it's hard to believe that September is coming to a close. My favorite month of the year has been lovely and I'm so thankful - and a little sad to see it go!

Beautiful weather, lots of my favorite fresh fruits and vegetables straight from the garden. Or my neighbor's gardens. I'm thankful for neighbors who share. Or Farm stands! (Except for a serious lack of local peaches this year because of a hard frost in April. A tragedy.)

Last week I hit my favorite hike for red maples - I've learned that that this spot hits its peak in mid-September and I did not want to miss it! I hit it on a morning after a rainstorm and the smell of the damp pines made the experience even more heavenly. (I'm sorry there's no option for conveying that part of the experience.)

I'm trying to more purposely carve out quiet time in my life. I go for walks most mornings and I've stopped listening to music or podcasts on those walks, just letting my mind think and wander. It's been a good way to clear my head at the beginning of the day.

My brain tends to be a "problem-solver" brain. (I guess most brains are since that's what they're designed for. lol) Lately it's felt weary of so many big problems that need solving. And I admit, even though as much as I'd like to, I can't solve them all!

On that day in the mountains I purposely turned off the problem-solving part of my brain and just stayed present, which honestly took some serious effort. I tried to use my senses to just take detailed notice of what I could see, hear, and smell.

Did the experience fundamentally change my life? No. But maybe? I did feel more peace after the experience. And some more big-picture perspective. As I my mind wandered through problems to be solved through the following days, I felt more clarity. Some. Not all of the solutions to the problems of the universe, but some grounding to help me tackle my problems of this week. So I'll take it. And try to get out more over the coming weeks as the colors in the mountains continue to shift and change. Which will cut into sewing time, but I'm totally okay with that.

The evenings are getting darker earlier and I've started pulling out the hot chocolate and cardigans some days. A reminder that there are good things about October too. 😉

Have a great week. As always, thanks so much for stopping by. xo

Best,

Amy
