Maple Leaf Quilt Block Tutorial + Double Lush Velvet

Greetings friends!

It's officially September! Hooray! I'm already enjoying slightly cooler temps and soaking up being outside as much as possible. You know that Christmas song, "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year"? I sing that song all through the month of September.

But first: with Fall officially (well, unofficially, but you know what I mean) here, it's time to pull out the fall quilts. And one of my favorite to pull out every year is this Modern Maples Quilt.

I made this one about 12 years ago using gorgeous shot cottons and I still love everything about it. The quilting on this one is amazing too. You can see pictures and read more about my Modern Maples quilt here.

Quilt Pattern Writing Course - free kick off this week!

If you are interested in learning to build a creative business or write professional quilt patterns, Elizabeth Chappell of Quilters Candy is hosting a free 3-day event called the Quilt Pattern Writing Kickstart, this week - September 9, 10, and 12.

She'll walk you through how to get your own version a creative business started, and then her Quilt Pattern writing course will teach you the industry standard for graphic design and writing, which is Adobe Illustrator and InDesign. I've taken this class myself to better learn those Adobe skills I and highly recommend it! And now's the last chance to do it live with Elizabeth.​

As I mentioned, I'm gloriously happy that my favorite month of the year has arrived! I walked into Trader Joe's today and may or may not have cackled with glee when I saw that their fall-favorite treats and goodies we stocked on the shelves! ☺️

We've got a pretty busy September stacking up - including a wedding this weekend and 2 more the following 2 weekends after. This weekend lots of out of state family is in town and we've had fun spending time with them. We're also soaking up the last few days with all of our kids home before our oldest returns to Virginia, and the other kids get busy with college. It's been a go-go-go week and I've totally loved it, but I may have needed a few extra naps to stay functional.

3 back-to-back-to-back weddings this month does feel like a lot, but I can't blame anyone for choosing to get married in September. I made that choice myself 29 years ago and have been an enthusiastic advocate of September weddings ever since.

I'm also excited to be participating in Garden of Quilts again this year at Thanksgiving Point, September 18-19. I'm not teaching any classes this year (I knew I'd be way busy with family this month) but I am giving a Trunk Show/lecture at 10:00 on Sept 18 in the gardens. All of the trunk shows are free with admission to the gardens! I'll also be participating in the Meet the Maker event Friday evening. If you're there, please come say hi!
