Sentimental Thanksgiving Quilts + Gift Ideas for Quilters

Favorite Thanksgiving Quilts + Gift Ideas For Quilters

Hello Quilty Friends!

Happy Week of Thanksgiving!

We're definitely getting into the holiday mood around here - starting to haul out the holly but also still very much looking forward to celebrating Thanksgiving this week. In today's newsletter edition I've got gift ideas for Christmas but also a bunch of favorite Thanksgiving quilts and ideas to share.

Gift Guides for Quilters and People Who Love to Sew

It's that time of year when the world goes on sale and with the holidays (and holiday sales) are coming soon (or already upon us), I updated my annual list of Gift Ideas for Quilters.

You can use this as a helpful guide looking for gifts for other friends who sew, or ideas for your letter to Santa this year. There's something from every price point on this list such as:

  • Favorite Notions
  • Adorable pins and Needle Minders
  • Favorite books
  • T-shirts, stickers and other sewing-themed novelties
  • Quilting Software
  • Handmade Tools
  • Sewing Machine Advice (for someone looking for an upgrade or big-ticket item)

A little something for every good quilter this year. Click the button for the full list:

Favorite Thanksgiving Quilts

We're definitely getting into the holiday mood around here, but before we officially kick off Christmas, I wanted to stop and pay my respect to Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving quilts definitely aren't as ubiquitous as Christmas quilts or even Halloween quilts. I might be one of the rare ones, but I've actually made a few Thanksgiving quilts! In fact, one of my favorite quilts I've ever made is my Gratitude Quilt. (Which is also a free tutorial!)

Have you ever made a Thanksgiving Quilt? Here's my collection of Thanksgiving Quilts over the years:

Stitch a Quilted Basketball Hoop!

If you’ve got basketball fans at your house (or you just love a quirky sewing project), you’re going to love this week’s tutorial. My friend Jessica of Jessica Steele Design is sharing the cutest quilted basketball hoop - part mini quilt, part functional hoop, and completely fun. It’s perfect for a kids’ room, game room, or even by your sewing trash bin so you can shoot your fabric scraps “nothing but net.”

Fun Finds on the Web - Last Minute Thanksgiving Ideas

Since you might not have as much time for sewing this week, here are a few last minute Thanksgiving ideas.

Need a last minute hostess gift or something cute for placing your pie on? Stacey Lee has some darling and quick fall/pumpkin hot pad tutorials here.

I love this idea of a simple DIY Gratitude Journal. This would be a fun craft project while people are waiting for the turkey to cook and a meaningful way to celebrate the holiday.

Pre Black Friday Sales Going on

Next week I'll have more Quilt-Related Black Friday deals, but with the holiday so late this year, it seems like a lot of stores have started their markdowns early. Here are a couple of sales that are already happening.

Whew! A lot to share. Thanks for hanging with me.

Happy Thanksgiving week to you, friends!

Whether you’re celebrating here in the US, already celebrated in Canada this year, or not celebrating an official holiday, take minute for gratitude. In fact, I’m trying to make gratitude more of a daily practice than a once-a-year holiday.

At the same time, I do still love that there’s a day set aside to gather with people and celebrate gratitude together. And eating good food together is pretty fun too. 😉

I'm looking forward to time spent with extended family this week. Some of my kids are out of state - and I'll miss them! I'm so grateful for those who are hosting them and looking out for them this week.

In the past I've been one of those "No Christmas Music until after Thanksgiving!" kind-of-people, but I've started to soften in that regard over the last few years. I might even start pulling out the Christmas tree tonight.

I've shared this before, but it still cracks me up every year. If you're part of the "Hey! Give Thanksgiving it's Fair Turn" Club, you might enjoy this funny Thanksgiving video from the Johnson Files.

See you next week!

xo,

Amy

First of all, I'm working on a new baby quilt tutorial that features Half Square Triangles from 5" precuts (aka a Charm Pack). Half-square triangles are one of those basic building blocks for SO MANY quilt designs from traditional to modern. In today’s post, I’m sharing my favorite shortcut for making two HSTs at a time (hello,...

Sewing Room Organization + End of January Shop SALE Hello Quilting Friends! Happy January everyone! I hope life is treating you as well as possible. This week I finally got all of the Christmas remnants cleaned up and put away and as soon as that was done, I started a deep clean on my Sewing Room. I'm feeling so fired up to purge and organize. (I can't say that I always feel this motivated, so I'm running with that energy while I can!) In fact, I was in such a good rhythm today that I...

We've had a busy, happy family time at our house this year, plus some fun time gathering with extended family in the New Year.
