Free Stocking Patterns + Bows +What's New!

Happy Weekend Everyone! Here we are staring down the second week of December and I've got some fun ideas and inspiration to share!

Tutorials for Handmade Christmas Stockings

Handmade stockings are one of my favorite Christmas traditions.

If you're looking for one that's super fast and beginner-friendly - check out my most popular stocking pattern of all time here:

I've put together a list of 20 more ideas and handmade stocking ideas tutorials for every skill level here:

I've also included a look at the handmade stockings that have been used in my family going on 5 generations now. And you may be shocked to find out that they're not quilted! Click below for all of the details:

What's On My Sewing Table This Month

New this week I'm sharing what's on my Sewing Table this month, starting with an 'Honest Sewing Room' photo to make you all feel better. 😅 (You'll have to go to the actual post to see that one.) My sewing room was definitely in need of a clean-out before I could attempt any Christmas sewing.

Click below to get a look at what I'm working on including two on-going-scrappy Christmas quilts I've been working on for a few years now. Is this the year that I finally finish them? Or at least one of them? Time will tell, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

A Fast and Easy Quilt You Could Finish for Christmas!

Are you wondering if it's too late to make a quilt as a Christmas gift this year? I've got the perfect SUPER fast quilt pattern that you can put together quick. It's also perfect for using Fat Quarters so it's a great stash-buster too.

Fun Finds on the Web - Big Fabric Bows

You've probably noticed already, but Bows are having a big moment this year. Luckily for us makers, they're fun to make and you can make them for a fraction of the price you'd pay for them at a fancy boutique. Especially if you use materials you already have on hand: aka your fabric stash. 😉 Here are a few options:

I had so much fun making these bows last year using Amanda Neiderhouser's Bow pattern. They're quick and the construction is simple and they turn out perfect every time.

Ruby Star Society has a free tutorial for making a Patchwork Bow using a mini charm pack (2 1/2" squares).

If you want a larger version of a Patchwork Bow that is also quilted, check out this pattern from Brooklyn Dawn Quilt Co - it's soooo cute.

In other news, if you love Foundation Paper Piecing, it's not too late to sign up for the free Winter Wonderland collection where 9 designers are releasing a free 8" FPP block each day between Dec 1 and 9th.

This week I finally got the inside Christmas decorations finished and the boxes put away. It felt like it was a week-long project. And not because I have that much stuff - just because I was doing it in fits and starts.

Some things that came out of the boxes with broken lights or parts, or just didn't float my boat anymore, went back into the box. Simplifying felt good. When I put everything away after the holidays, I'll go through what didn't make the cut and get rid of it.

That said, I still need to finish decorating my front porch. There is still a random pumpkin on it (it's dark green, so hopefully it's camoflauged a little) and the fresh greens garland that I got at Costco on Tuesday is still wrapped up waiting for lights and hanging. I realized I was out of working light strings - so I've got some waiting for me at Target for pick up. I'm just trying to get up the desire to brave the Target parking lot and lines. 😅

As soon as I hit 'send' I need to finally order my Christmas cards... the list never seems to end. I'm hoping I'm getting to the point soon where planning and list-checking and decorating slow down and I can just enjoy the cozy parts of the season. Hopefully. 😉

Hope all is going well with your own December lists and projects and plans!

Wishing you all the best. See you next week!

xo,

Amy
